Ballad Of colours

Music Video shot in 1998.

Concept:-The concept or storyline that we tried to visually depict in ‘Ballad Of Colours’ was of a painter whose painting comes to life.As the painter is torn apart by the manifestation of his dreams and his reality… Just as our mind is easily disoriented by the real and the unreal and we end up running behind mirages of unreasonable expectations and end up loosing touch with both… But ‘hope’ never ends…

Ballad of colours

Shitalchandra Kulkarni

‘Guitar on fire’…literally.Shitalchandra’s fingers fly on the strings like fire in a blaze. With his pilose hair and dark glasses you would not mistake him for anything other than a rock musician.

Now with more than 30 years of being an artist and a teacher,he is the quintessential musician and guitarist. He has received multiple international awards and accolades for his achievements in the field of music.

He is also the Director-Institute of Modern Music.

Ballad of colours

Sanjay Subramanian

With the looks of a studious scholar rather than a rock band performer, Sanjay Subramanian’s melodious vocals have mellifluously harmonised the Tungsten Band and provided it with an emphatic and euphonious chord.

At present Sanjay is in the US pursuing other interests.

It is nearing 25 years since we shot this music video.1998 to be precise.

It was Prof.Suhaaschandra Kulkarni’s single minded goal that led to this music video being made.

We shot for three shifts. The second and third shifts were shot continuously. We started at around 7 am in the morning and finished at 7 am the next morning…a full 24 hour shoot.

We thank everyone who was involved for their patience and dedication.

We were shooting on a hill top near a quarry.During the shoot the day was filled with a bright sun and an almost clear sky and the shoot went on without any hitches.

The night shift was a bit more adventurous. We had built a thatched hut set.The hut was built on a forest land and soon enough the forest officials came in and stopped our shoot in the middle of the night. No sooner had we resolved it, it started raining heavily. The set which we had built got fully wet inside and we were walking around in wet slush with muddied shoes. As soon as the rain stopped, our set was visited by a curious snake too.

But despite that and all the commotion,we had a schedule to stick by and finally we finished the shoot by morning 7 am.

A special thanks to Prof.Suhaaschandra Kulkarni for the confidence reposed and to Shital and Sanjay for their full support and co-operation.

We shot on a Betacam. There were not many digital cameras in those days and the Betacam shot ‘analog’ on a physical cassette.

We shot in Pune, made a rough edit locally and then completed the final edit in Mumbai-Bandra.

The music video was telecast on channels like Asianet and other music channels. It was a proud moment for all of us.
